Notes for Ellen Elizabeth BRADY

On October 26, 1890, William John Carpenter, son of William Henry Carpenter and Mary Pembroke, married Ellen Brady at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia. Not much is known about the family of Ellen Elizabeth Brady. She was born in New Philadelphia, Blythe Township, Schuylkill County, PA around 1865 and baptized at St.Stephen's R.Church in Port Carbon,Pa. Her parents were Irish immigrants named Thomas Brady and Julia Martin. Ellen had a sister, Margaret Brady Morrissey. No record of the parents appears after 1870. Sometime before 1890, Ellen moved to Philadelphia.Ellen was a devoted Catholic. For most of William John Carpenter's life, he works as a "Box Maker". In 1930 he was a night watchman in an office building. In 1890, William was living at 2121 Wallace Street(Fairmount neighborhood or now called the Art Museum area). Later, he and Ellen lived at times on Buttonwood st., Bucknell st., Cambridge st. and 810 n. 28th Streets. Each of the six children of Ellen Brady and William J. Carpenter were baptized at the Roman Catholic Church of St. Francis Xavier(est.1839).
