Notes for Thomas Morrison BIRDSALL
Thomas Morrison Birdsall, M.D., 87, long time resident of Haverford, PA died of heart failure Tuesday, September 27, 2011 Dr. Birdsall was born in Philadelphia, graduated from The Penn Charter School, Haverford College and The University of Pennsylvania Medical School. He completed his surgical internship and residency at Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia, specializing in Urology. He later served as Chief of Urology at Presbyterian Hospital, Chief of Urology at Riddle Memorial Hospital, and was on staff at Delaware County Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the American Urologic Association (AUA), President of the Doctors Golf Association, President of the Inter-Hospital Bridge Whist League, and served as President of the Medical Club of Philadelphia. He was a former member of the Union League of Philadelphia, and is a member of the Merion Cricket Club, and the Merion Golf Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, an accomplished golfer, and played competitive bridge throughout his life. While serving in the U.S. Navy as a physician during the Korean War, he developed a life-long interest in photography. In 1944 he married Elizabeth Swartz. His greatest joy over the years was spending time with his family. He was an active member of The First Presbyterian Church of Ardmore for over 50 years, where he served as an Elder. He was a volunteer for Main Line Meals on Wheels. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth S. Birdsall and devoted father of Elizabeth Ann Johnson(Ronald), Thomas Morrison Birdsall Jr.(Stephanie), Sandra Birdsall Atteberry(William), Mary Birdsall Raiken(Dennis), Christopher Pennock Birdsall M.D.(Melinda), & Susan Birdsall Dingle(Jonathan). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Todd, Thomas, Thomas III, Cassandra, Lyn, Kristine, Alec, Dannielle, Ryan, Andrew, Jeffrey & Katie; and 10 great grandchildren, Shea, McKenzie, Kaylin, Derek, Eleanor, Scarlett, Elizabeth, William, Jacob and Chloe. A Memorial Service will be held at The First Presbyterian Church of Ardmore, 5 W. Montgomery Avenue (at Millcreek Road), Ardmore, PA 19003, on Saturday, October 8 at 11:00 a.m.
