Notes for Jane Downing HICKS

BOWMAN, at Phoenixville Hospital on Fri day, July 11, 2008. Jane Downing Hicks Bowman, wife of the late Jack R. Bowman, formerly of East Vincent, age 89.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1239 Clover Mill Road, Chester Springs, PA19425. Officiating will be Rev. Ronald P. Weseman. Burial will be in St. Matthews Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery. Calling hours are on Tuesday evening from 7:00 till 8:30 PM at Cattermole-Klotzbach Funeral Home, 600 Washington Street, Royersford, PA and on Wednesday morning at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Born in Penllyn, Jane was the daughter of the late Charles Kimball and Alice (Downing) Hicks.
She was a graduate of Spring City High School and Ursinus College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics.
She was employed for 44 years at Jones Motor Co. Inc. until her retirement in 1981.
She then served as census enumerator for the Owen J. Roberts School District for 20 years.
Jane had been an active member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Chester Springs. She was also a former member of St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she served as treasurer and financial secretary for many years.
She was also greatly involved in the G.F.W.C. at the Women's Library Club of Spring City. There she served as president from 1980 to 1982 and 1996 to 1998, respectively. She was also president of the Chester County Federation of Women's Clubs from 1984 to 1986.
Jane was an avid gardener, which was evident all around her house. She also did extensive needlework and enjoyed traveling as well.
Jane is survived by her three daughters, Susan B., wife of Barry Ritschard, of East Coventry and Sara A. Bowman and Joy E., wife of Jerry W. Thompson, both of Phoenixville; grandchildren, Amanda Ritschard, Eliza Alexander and Matthew, Jack and Daniel Thompson; and foster sister, Margaret Klossman Thompson of New Holland.
She was also preceded in death by her twin brother, the late Charles Kimball Hicks II, husband of Sara "Penny" Hicks, of Pottstown; and foster brothers, William and George Klossman.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1239 Clover Mill Road, Chester Springs, PA 19425. Officiating will be the Rev. Ronald P. Weseman.
