Notes for Annis Lee FURNESS
TOWNSEND
ANNIS LEE FURNESS died peacefully at 97 years of age on October 15th from the complications of old age. She was born in 1912, the daughter of Radclyffe Furness and Caroline Wood Furness. She was predeceased by her husband, architect Joseph B. Townsend of Wawa and her elder daughter Judge Mary Richards Hamill, of Princeton, New Jersey. She is survived by a daughter, Annis Lee Townsend of Rose Valley, a son Joseph B. Townsend Jr. of Wawa, and six grandchildren.
Her paternal grandparents were Frank Furness, the renowned 19th century Philadelphia architect and Fannie Fassitt Furness. Her maternal grandparents were Richard Wood and Mary Hunn Sharpless Wood of Wawa, Pa.
She was a member of the Acorn Club, The Women's Committee of the Philadelphia Art Museum, the Merion Cricket Club, and the Four Counties Garden Club. Services will be held at Saint John's Episcopal Church in Concordville, PA (610-459-2994) on Saturday Oct. 24th at 11 A.M.
