RETIRED BANK MANAGER, 87 Evan Randolph, 87, of Society Hill and Southwest Harbor, Maine, a retired bank manager and society figure, died Friday at home in Society Hill. He died while taking a nap after a 20-minute workout on his rowing machine.
Mr. Randolph, who was born in Chestnut Hill, graduated from Milton (Mass.) Academy and Harvard University (1931). He was a Navy lieutenant during World War II.
For more than 25 years, he was manager of the First Pennsylvania Bank branch in Ardmore. He retired in 1972.
He was a former resident of Radnor and served for a time on the township Planning Commission. He also was a member of the board at the Bryn Mawr College School of Social Work.
He was a member of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, the Philadelphia Club and the Atheneum.
He was an oarsman in college and he picked up the sport again about 20 years ago and had since been competing in races and in Concept II competitions - rowing machine races sponsored by the U.S. Rowing Association - in which he frequently won for his age group. In 1995, he was the oldest contestant in the Head of the Charles River Regatta, and he competed regularly in the Southwest Harbor 4th of July rowing race.
Surviving are his wife, Frances Lewis Beale Randolph; sons Evan, Leonard and John; seven granddaughters; two sisters; and a brother.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. tomorrow at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 313 Pine St.
