Notes for Brigham YOUNG
Baptised into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1832. Ordained an elder as sent as missionary to Canada. Member of the expedition into Missouri, 1834, known as "Zion's Camp". Became one of the twelve apostles, 1835, and later president of that body. Led the pilgrimage which in 1847 founded the State of Deseret, which became Utah Territory in 1850. He was appointed governor by President Fillmore, serving until 1857.
