Deceased Name: FRANCIS CAREY LEA JR.
FRANCIS CAREY LEA JR., 72, of Berwyn, retired partner in the medical publishing firm of Lea & Ferbiger, died Sunday at Bryn Mawr Hospital.
Mr. Lea was born in Bala Cynwyd, attended the Montgomery School, graduated from the Haverford School and attended the University of Pennsylvania. During World War II, he served with the Army's Fourth Eschelon Ordnance Unit in the South Pacific for two years.
After the war, Mr. Lea, the great-great-great-grandson of Mathew Carey, who founded Lea & Ferbiger in 1785, joined the family firm. In 1954, he became a partner with responsibility for retail sales.
After his retirement, in 1985, he served as a volunteeer at Bryn Mawr Hospital.
Survivors: his wife, the former Carolyn Coady; daughters Marianna J., Susan L. West and Elizabeth L. Mealing; sons F. Carey 3d and Henry V. A.; two grandchildren, and two sisters.
Services: memorial, 11:30 a.m. tomorrow, St. David's Chapel, 763 Valley Forge Rd., Wayne; burial, private.
