Notes for Bertram Jr. LIPPINCOTT
Bertram Lippincott, Jr. died December 5, 2014 at Gladwyne, PA at the age of 92. He was a lifelong summer resident of Jamestown. He was born in Philadelphia, son of Bertram and Elsie Hirst Lippincott and was a graduate of St. George's School and Princeton University. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served with the 69th Infantry reconnaissance in Europe, uniting with the Russian Army at the Elbe River. He followed the family tradition of book publishing with J. B. Lippincott Co. in England and later as Sales Manager of the David McKay Publishing Company in New York City, where he raised his family. He was a skilled golfer, sailor and photographer and was a former member of Gulph Mills Golf Club, Merion Cricket Club, Princeton Club of New York, Society of Colonial Wars and the Newport Reading Room. He was a member and former Commodore of the Conanicut Yacht Club. He enjoyed his family and summers on Mackerel Cove in Jamestown. He is survived by his son Bertram Lippincott III, Jane Lippincott and granddaughter Caroline Coxe Lippincott of Jamestown and step children John Bell and LeVaun Graulty. He was predeceased by his son Stephen Wharton Lippincott, wives Margaret Bruun Lippincott, Levaun Bell Lippincott and siblings Barton Lippincott, Elsie Chadwick and Joanna Sorlien. A memorial service was held on Tuesday, December 16 at 11:45 at St. George's School Chapel, Purgatory Road, Middletown, RI.
