Notes for Margaret Katherine OVERBEY
Margaret (Marge) Canby, formerly of West Chester Margaret (Marge) Canby, age 82, died on Christmas day following a lengthy illness. Marge was born in Hammond, Ind. She moved with her parents during her early years and graduated from high school in Oak Ridge, Tenn. She was married to Thomas Dawson Canby for more than sixty-three years. Marge and her husband Tom lived in Niagra Falls, N.Y., Memphis, Tenn., and the NASA area of Houston, Texas before relocating to West Chester in 1972. Marge was a dedicated charter member of the Radley Run Garden Club. She was a bowling enthusiast and enjoyed bowling with friends in a bowling league. She was well known for her gourmet cooking. Marge enjoyed sewing handwork including embroidery. She was also an avid reader. Tom and Marge enjoyed travel, traveling throughout the world. They raised three children, Thomas Jr., Charles and Mary Jean. Her husband Tom survives Marge, as does her son Thomas D. Canby Jr. and his wife Kate; as well as Marge's daughter Mary Jean Goetz and her husband Bob. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Patty Canby. She is survived by five grandchildren Julia, Liz, Rebecca, Sarah and Matthew, seven great-grandchildren and many other family members. Her son, Charles, preceded her in death. Marge is also survived by her brothers Jess Overbey (USMC, WWII Veteran) and William Overbey. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015 at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church at 212 S. High St, West Chester with interment the following day at Woodside Cemetery in Brighton, Md. The interment will be preceded by another memorial service at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Brighton, Md.
