Notes for Edward Tobey Jr. STUART
EDWARD T. STUART JR., 85, a retired Philadelphia insurance broker, died Sunday at his home in Devon.
Mr. Stuart was a graduate of Episcopal Academy and the University of Virginia and was the founder of the Virginia Club of Philadelphia.
During World War II, he served in the Army Chemical Warfare Service and rose to the rank of captain. He was a member of the First Troop Philadelphia City Cavalry.
Mr. Stuart, who spent much of his time on his farm in Chesterton, Md., enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a ornithologist and mammologist and an ardent advocate of wildlife preservation and conservation.
He also studied the history of the Confederacy and the Civil War.
Survivors: his wife, Mildred Pearce Sinkler Stuart; son, Edward T. 3d; daughter, Mildred Stuart West, and four grandchildren.
Services: memorial 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Old St. David's Church, Valley Forge Road, Wayne.
