Benjamin Ludlow Jr., 88, of this town, a longtime musician, died Friday at home.
He was a composer, conductor and instrumentalist in a number of cities, including Washington, D.C., New York City, Philadelphia and Boston. One of his compositions was performed by the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra. He led a number of handbell choirs.
Born in Ardmore, Pa., he was a graduate of Swarthmore College and was president of his class for 60 years.
He belonged to the Society of Colonial Wars for 50 years and received the Bishop's Cross for outstanding service in the Episcopal Church.
He leaves his wife, Claire Ludlow; a son, John of El Paso, Texas; two brothers, J.P. Crozer and Alden Rodney, both of Philadelphia; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three stepchildren.
A memorial service will be on March 20 at South Congregational Church in South Amherst. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. John's Church Music Department, Cold Spring Harbor, NY 11724.
