Notes for Joshua Morris COPE
J. Morris Cope, 81, retired salesman and former organizer of Lansdowne Borough's annual July Fourth parade, died of a heart attack Monday at his home in the borough.
For more than 25 years, Mr. Cope distributed small American flags to youngsters for the parade. He recruited marchers and bands and then rode in an official parade car.
He gave up his post as organizer about four years ago, his family said.
Mr. Cope worked as a salesman of materials used for loading docks. He retired in 1974.
He studied mechanical engineering at Drexel University and during World War II at Purdue University while serving in the Navy. He saw action in the South Pacific.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Elizabeth Huldeen Cope; sons James M. and Edward H.; a brother; a sister; and two grandsons.
Services will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lansdowne Friends Meeting, Lansdowne and Stuart Avenues, Lansdowne. Burial will be private.
