Notes for Ellen WELSH
MRS. THOMAS P.C. STOKES. Special to the New York Times. PHILADELPHIA, May 30. Mrs. Ellen Welsh Stokes, widow of Thomas P.C. Stokes, a Philadelphia civic leader, and mother of Representative Edward Lowber Stokes, died of heart disease yesterday at her home at Edgemont, near Newtown Square. She was 84 and the daughter of the late John Welsh, Minister to England under President Hayes. Her husband took an active part in organizing the Centennial Exposition here in 1876. A daughter, Mrs. Harold Weeks, and five sons, Representative Stokes, Thomas, Walter, John W. and W. Standley Stokes, all of this city, survive. Published May 31, 1934
