Notes for John Jacob IV ASTOR
After his mother's death her son John Jacob Astor, IV, divorce dhis first wife Ava Lowell Willing, originally from Philadelphia. In 1911 he remarried a much younger woman named, Madeleine Talmadge Force, their ceremony was held in the ballroom of Beechwood. After the service the couple headed to Europe to escape th egossip of their union. Unfortunately, they were returning to New York on the RMS Titanic. Madeleine, who was five months pregnant, survived. Her husband, John Jacob Astor IV, Titanic's most wealthy passenger did not.
Note: Col. John Jacob Astor, granson of the founder of the Astor family in America, died on April 15th, 1912 after putting his bride in one of the life boats. His body was found wrapped in a life jacket. Mrs. Astor inherited 1.7 million dollars. Their unborn son was left a trust fund of 3 million dollars with an additional l5 million when he came of age.
