George Wood, the earliest known ancestor of his family, was born about 1625 (the exact place and full date has not been ascertained) and died at Darby, Pennsylvania, 2mo, 27, 1705. He was evidently a man of some means as he purchased, according to "Sales in England of Land in Pennsylvania," one thousand acres in the above Province from William Penn. In 1682, with his wife Hannah and their children, he located in Pennsylvania. Their certificate of removal was dated 5mo., 27, 1682, from Matlock, Monyash and Ashford Monthly Meeting, and came from a hamlet called Bonsall. In 1689, he ws listed as the holder of six hundred and fifty-five acres of land in Chester County, Pennsylvania. He served as a member of the Assembly for one term.
George Wood married Hannah, surname not found, who died in Darby, Pennsylvania, and was buried 1st mo., 9, 1687.
