Notes for David Trowbridge GILCHRIST
David Trowbridge Gilchrist, 87, of Stonington, Connecticut died at the Westerly Hospital on September 8, 2011. He was born in Rochester, New York to Donald Gilchrist and Ella Trowbridge.
David graduated from Princeton University with a BA in History and Harvard University with a MA in History. He also attended Johns Hopkins University in their doctorial program for history. David was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Marines in China at the end of World War II.
David was Director of Publications at the Eleutherian Mills-Hagley Library and Museum in Wilmington, Delaware. Upon retirement he moved to Stonington, Connecticut. David was an avid saltwater and freshwater fisherman and upland game bird hunter.
David is survived by his wife of 52 years Sarah (Bradford) Gilchrist; daughter Ann Gilchrist of Stonington and son William Gilchrist of Wilmington, Delaware.
A private burial will be held at Stonington Cemetery at a later date.
