Notes for James Jr. LEA
He was a merchant owning a fleet of eight to ten ships, engaged in Irish and West Indian trade, but was ruined by the embargo of December 7, 1807. He moved to Pittsburgh, and thence by boat down the Ohio River to Cincinnati in 1822, where he again built up a prosperous business. He was ruined again, this time by the acts of a near relative whom he had taken into this business. He was distinguished for his hospitality and charity.
