Notes for William FARQUHAR
William, Sr., born 29-7-(Sept) 1705 (OS) in Ireland died at Pipe Creek, Md. 21-9-1788; a memorial prepared by Fairfax monthly meeting to his memory; he was a member (at first) of New Garden monthly meeting Chester Co., Pa.; his father, Allen Farquhar, the 1st, lived in Frederick Co., Md. William was marry 19-2 (Apr) 1733 (OS) at New Garden Mtg. Pa. to Ann MILLER daughter of James & Katharine (LIGHTFOOT) Miller, also from Ireland. In 1735 Wm. & Ann (MILLER) Farquher removed to Pipe Creek, Frederick Co., Md., taking a certificate from New Garden monthly meeting, Pa. to Hopewell monthly meeting, Va., and settled on land left him under his father's Will, ?provided he would move from Pa. to Md. and occupy the same.? this land being near the present town of Union Bridge, Md. It is said that Wm. was a tailor and made buckskin breeches which he sold at Annapolis, and with the proceeds bought more land. In 1760 he owned 2000 acres. When Fairfax monthly meeting, Va. was established in 1745 his membership at Hopewell monthly meeting was transferred to Fairfax monthly meeting; he helped establish Pipe Creek particular or preparative meeting (1759) and its mtgs at first were held at his home; when Pipe Creek monthly meeting was established (1767) his membership was transferred to that monthly meeting from Fairfax monthly meeting; the several changes of his membership (New Garden to Hopewell to Fairfax to Pipe Creek MM's) did not necessitate his moving from his settled home at Pipe Creek, Md. where he lived and died.
