DEATH OF DR. ISAAC T. COATES

Intelligence comes from Socorro. New Mexico, of the death of Dr. Isaac T. Coates, brother of Major R. T. Coates of Chester, which took place on Saturday last. Deceased was 49 years of age. He was born in Coatesville, Chester county, and in 1857 or '58 graduated at the University of Pennsylvania. He was surgeon on the Great Western of the Black Ball Line and made several trips in her. At the breaking out of the war he was in Louisiana and came north and entered the Navy, serving as surgeon on board the U.S. steamship Bienville. After the war had closed he entered the army and was Surgeon in the Seventh Calvary (sic) under General Custer in his great campaign against the Indians. Subsequently he was several years in Peru as surgeon to the redoubtable Meigs, and served in the same capacity to the Collins expedition to Brazil. He then went to the southwestern States, dying in Socorro, as stated. Major Coates has telegraphed to have the remains sent east but it is not known of yet whether this is practible.

DEATH OF A FORMER LOS ANGELES PHYSICIAN

Socorro, N.M., June 25.--Dr. Isaac P. Coates, in this section, formerly of Los Angeles, Cal., died last night at 10 o'clock from an overdose of chloroform. When discovered he was beyond all aid, although several doctors worked over an hour trying to revive him.
