Notes for George T. SNYDER

On September 30, 1882, George T. Snyder pitched a game for the Philadelphia Athletics. It was his only appearance in baseball and he was the oldest man to play that year at age 33.

Policeman Exerted himself too much on diamond.
It is said that exertion from playing baseball caused the death of Policeman George Snyder. He died suddenly at his home, 826 Capitol St. Prior to his retirement three weeks ago from the Ninth district baseball team, he exerted himself. It is claimed, while trying to stretch a two-base hit into a three bagger, and has been complaining since then.
When he was in his prime, Snyder was a good ball player and for a time, pitched for the old Athletic team. He joined the police force in 1875, and when the different police district teams were organized last year, he was selected as a member of the Ninth district nine. He was 57 years old. Heart disease is believed to have been the direct cause of death.

SNYDER- August 2, George T. Snyder. Relatives and friends also police officers of the 9th district are invited to attend the funeral at the residence of his son, 807 N. 20th St., on Saturday August 5, at 2 P.M.
Interment Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
