Notes for Robert III PENNELL
From The History of Chester County, PA, page 679:
PENNELL, Robert, with Hannah, his wife, from Balderton, in Nottinghamshire, settled in Middletown as early as 1686, and the next year he was appointed constable for the township. They were both active members of the meeting. Hannah died 12, 4, 1711, aged seventy-one years, and Robert about the year 1728. Their children were Ann , m. 2, 17, 1689, Benjamin Mendenhall; EIizabeth, m. in 1690, Josiah Taylor; Hannah, b. 7, 23, 1673, m. 9, 23, 1692, John Sharples; Joseph, b. 10, 12, 1674; James, b. 9, 11, 1676; Jane, b. 5, 13, 1678, m. Samuel Garrett; William, b. 8, 11, 1681, m. 8, 26, 1710, Mary Mercer, daughter of Thomas and Mary.
Robert Pennell of Middletown, yeoman. May 22, 1727. February 25, 1728/9. A. 293. To grandson Joseph son of Joseph Pennell 200 acres of land being part of 500 acres purchased of Wm. Smith in Edgmont he paying £30 to his 4 sisters the same being their grandfather's legacies and also £6 per year to his grandfather Robt. Pennell during life. To granddaughter Hannah Jackson, to granddaughters Alice, Ann, Jane and Mary Pennell £5 each and the £10 formerly given to grandson Robt. Pennell deceased. To grandson Thos. Pennell £5. To James Pennell £10. To Hannah Pennell £5. To Ann Pennell £5. To Robt. Pennell £10. To Wm. Pennell £10. To daughter Ann and Benjamin Mendenhall, my bed. To John Sharpless 10 shillings and 5 shillings to each of his children. To Jane and Saml. Garrett £1 and 5 shillings to each of their children. To Robert Taylor 2/6 shillings. To Phebe Lewis 5 shillings. To Hannah Mercer 5 shillings. Remainder to sons Joseph and William also executors. Witnesses: John Cooper, Mark Fester, Eph. Jackson.
