Notes for William CONNELL
William Connell, was born in Marcus Hook, Chester Co., Pa. on July 31, 1745, and distinguished himself during the Revolutionary War by fitting out at his own expense a gunboat to protect citizens along the Delaware River and the Chesapeake Bay. The Sloop "General Thompson" with 6 guns and 12 men.

Departed this life on Wednesday last, at his residence in Marcus Hook, Capt. William Connell, in his 73rd year of his age; during the revolutionary war he was a firm, and native Whig, to which principles he had constantly adhered since; in his friendship constant and sincere, possessing the true characteristic of the Seaman, Generosity; he was very ready to afford relief when he saw his fellow creatures in distress; his friends & acquaintances arrived to attend his funeral on Saturday at nine o'clock, from his late dwelling.
