Notes for Elizabeth NOWLAND

Elizabeth 'Betty' Nowland Chambers, formerly of Chester County Elizabeth "Betty" Nowland Chambers, 87, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2012 at Signature Healthcare of Port Charlotte, Florida after suffering a stroke on June 8. Betty was born on June 28, 1925 in London Grove, to the late Ethel and Thomas Nowland. On October 26, 1946, she married her high school sweetheart, J. Franklin Chambers. Betty and Frank shared 49 years of marriage before his death in 1995 from Lou Gehrig's disease. Betty graduated from Unionville High School in 1943 and continued her education at the Chester County Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1946 as a registered nurse. While in nursing school she was a proud member of the United States Cadet Nursing Corp. Betty retired from Embreeville Center in 1987 where she had worked as a nurse for 18 years. She enjoyed visiting her family throughout the United States, from California to Maine, going to weddings and graduations of her grandsons, nieces and nephews, but her heart will always be at Chambers Lake which was dedicated to her husband Frank. She is survived by four children, Linda and her husband Rick of Port Charlotte, Fla., James and wife Janet of Hesston, Pa., David and wife Cindy of Fayetteville, Pa. and William and his wife Donna of Christiana, Pa. She is also survived by her sister Jeanette, wife of Rennard Landers of West Chester. Betty loved to brag about the many accomplishments and virtues of her eight grandsons, Lee Donton and wife Diane, Lt. Colonel Ian and Amy Chambers, Brett and Jennie Chambers, Drs. Michael and Taylor Chambers, Steven Chambers, Ian and Stacey Parchen, Jeff Chambers and Lance Chambers. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a brother Thomas, husband of Irene Nowland of Delaware City, Del. A memorial service will be held at a future date. Donations in Betty's honor can be made to the Wounded Warrior Foundation. Our thanks to Dr. Janet Tobin and to the kind and caring staff at Signature HealthCare of Port Charlotte, Florida.
